[Karla is back from the mission, and she is glad for it. The desert heat had gotten to her, and it was more than she could bear. As far as she's concerned, the mission was hollow to her. She didn't get any stronger from it, and she didn't pay much attention to what was going on with the Iron Eye or the Malnosso.]

[Now that she's generally recovered, she pays a visit to the clothing shop to explore the various ladies' clothing. Quite interesting, all the different fashions here in Luceti. She decides to try on a few dresses and see how comfortable they are and how well she can move in them. Among some of the dresses she tries are this, this, and this. Catch her in the clothing shop as she emerges from the dressing room and checking herself out in the mirror. She keeps her sword sheath at her waist as usual, and while standing in front of the mirror, she'll bring the sheath in front of her and draw the sword about halfway. Then she'll draw the sword completely and assume her various poses, just to see how it feels in these dresses, and how she looks in the mirror.]

Which is why you need a plan. Now, then: what you should do is list down the things you'd want IF you, for example, didn't HAVE to find your brother. What would those be?

Um...

[Her mind trails off, initially occupied with thoughts of being with her brother as a child. Then her parents slowly come to mind, and how much she misses them. Brother...parents...family. Those things are important to her.]

Very good. Write that down! F-A-M-I-L-Y. Or just "fam" if you prefer shorthand. Now: how do you plan to acquire this family? Adoption? Marriage and natural birth? Purchase? Thievery?

Very well. [She writes the word down, sounding it out.] "Family..."

[And then the next question sinks in, and she blinks at the options. Purchase or thievery? People actually do that?]

Um...I would prefer marriage and natural birth...

[Oh Saint Elimine, what is she getting herself into...?]

How charming! A traditionalist! This is where your Five Year Plan becomes more detailed. Now you need to make a separate line: label it "Marriage."

All right...

[She draws the line on the notepad and writes the word "Marriage."]

Then what?

Number it one through ten, if you please.

[She confused, but reluctantly writes the numbers on the paper, and then holds it out for Effie to see.]

[This could take a while... Karla ponders some more. Why did she love her brother so much? Maybe her ideal mate could be something like him. Strong...caring...hard-working... Karla jots the words down on the paper, but then she gets stuck.]

[We have some brother-issues here.]

[Another glance at her list.]

...How many do I need?

Do you want him to be tall? Good-looking? Wealthy? Well-connected? We've got to narrow down the field for you. A future husband is no laughing matter!

Well...good-looking is nice...maybe tall is nice, too. He doesn't have to be wealthy...

[Ask her about money, and she'll be clueless.]

He should be wealthy, especially if you are to provide all of the things your children will need! Tutors, toys, lessons, games, teams, private schools! You don't want them to do WITHOUT, do you?!

Huh?

[Have a long, incredulous stare. Is she for real? Raising children might be tougher than she thought.]

So I think we have a FEW more things to add to that list, don't you?

Okay...so...wealthy...? [Fidgeting with her hands] ...And what else?

This isn't MY man -- he's yours! You have to think up the qualifications. Also -- what number of children do you want?

[Well, she can't think of any other qualifications she might want in a man, so she'll move on to the next question.]

Well...just one, I suppose.

[She's not entirely sure if she can cut it as a mother...it already sounds so much different from what she had experienced in that experiment.]

I would think you'd want more than that! The survival rate for children is not particularly HIGH here, from what I've been told.

[Her expression shifts from confused to serious in an instant as her hand rests on her sword hilt.]

...Then I would raise my sword to protect my child. And then I would teach him the art.
